Brand Compatibility
Different brands, or even different versions of well plates from the same manufacturer, often have a different height of the well bottom, the so called well bottom elevation (WBE). This variation in elevation can pose significant challenges for proper illumination. When the distance between the light source and the wells differs, the intensity of light changes. Therefore it can be difficult to reproduce results in different well plate brands. More importantly, any gap between the illumination device and the plate can cause an increase in cross illumination, a problem that is especially difficult for plates with higher well bottom elevations. This cross lightening can have a significant impact on experimental accuracy, making some results unreliable.
Traditional illumination devices are usually optimized for a single brand or type of well plate, or they are compromising by providing suboptimal illumination across different plates.
In contrast, the Lumiplate uses a unique (patent-pending) approach that allows optimal illumination of almost any brand of well plate. This approach ensures that the well bottom always rests directly on the surface of the Lumiplate, reducing the gap between the Lumiplate and the well bottom to zero. Consequently, the Lumiplate delivers consistent illumination with minimal cross illumination, regardless of the brand or type of well plate used.
